Shore Leave Blood Drive

This year, we’ll be doing a Virtual Blood Drive In lieu of an in-person blood one. You can use the link below to schedule an appointment with the Red Cross anytime in July and our virtual blood drive will be credited. Bonus: You don’t have to choose between attending a panel and giving blood, now you can do both!

The link is: https://rcblood.org/3HK5SrG

(The blood drive is listed as “STAT Club of Maryland.” That’s our parent organization.)

Silent Auction

We will once again be holding a charity silent auction, this year to benefit the World Central Kitchen and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Visit the charity desk and check it out. There will be a variety of science fiction memorabilia to bid on, and even a membership to our sister convention Balticon.

Official Charities

Our official charities for this year are:

World Central Kitchen

Founded in 2010 by Chef José Andrés, World Central Kitchen (WCK) is first to the frontlines, providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises while working to build resilient food systems with locally led solutions. WCK has served more than 70 million fresh meals to people impacted by natural disasters and other crises around the world. WCK’s Resilience Programs strengthen food and nutrition security by training chefs and school cooks; advancing clean cooking practices; and awarding grants to farms, fisheries, and small food businesses while also providing educational and networking opportunities.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, located in Memphis, Tennessee, is one of the world’s premier pediatric cancer research centers. Its mission is to find cures for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. No child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.

The Julien Fleming Memorial Fund

The Julien Fleming Memorial Fund supports families with critically ill children by providing grants to help offset treatment costs not covered by insurance.

The Maryland Food Bank

We will once again be collecting pre-packaged food items for The Maryland Food Bank. Any non-perishable food that can sit on the shelf for a while is appreciated. Examples are canned vegetables, fruit, meats/fish and soups. Also, bags and or boxes of rice and beans, milk, soy, rice, etc. If you are unable to give food, money always work just fine. For every $1 you give the food bank can buy $4 worth of food.
